Lisa Hickey and her husband,
Michael Hickey, of Douglass Screen Printers, Inc. attended the 2006
Screen Graphics and Imaging Association’s 58th annual Specialty
Printing & Imaging Expo in Las Vegas this past September. This
annual event hosts some of the top printing manufacturers and suppliers
in the printing industry; such as 3M, 3P Inkjet Textiles Corporation,
AWT World Trade Inc., AlphaChem USA, Catalina Graphic Films, Coroplast
Inc., Die Cutters, Inc. and many more. The SGIA trade show continues
to grow each and every year; totaling almost 600 exhibitors this
year alone. The trade show also showcases new trends and ideas in
this ever changing and growing industry, while showcasing some of
the latest digital and screen printing equipment and products out
today.
Keynote speaker, Joe
Calloway, hammered home the need for the relentless pursuit of improvement;
and urged everyone to notice things that they did not know about
or did not see working, and wonder ‘are we doing this?’ and if not,
why? Screen printing continues to make an impact, especially as
printers embrace a multi-technology approach to specialty imaging.
The marriage between screen printing and digital printing continues
to grow and improve with time and with the introduction of new technologies,
but screen printing continues to be at the fore front of the printing
industry. Ink choices are also expanding. We will soon see the introduction
of specialty inks that will work well on some substrates such as
acrylic or substrates used for fleet graphic applications.
In the end, it’s about
the end product. The expo hall was full of ways to streamline the
print process, increase quality and production levels and maintain
competitiveness; and finishing equipment figured prominently. SGIA
continues to be the leader in bringing the varied ideas, trends,
and latest technologies for the printing industry together in one
convenient venue for all to come, learn and enjoy at their leisure.
