Center for Women's Business Research appoints Lisa Kaiser Hickey
as Director

The Center for Women’s
Business Research has appointed its next director on their Board
of Directors – Lisa Kaiser Hickey, President and CEO of Douglass
Screen Printers in Lakeland. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the
Center for Women’s Business Research, also known as CWBR, began
as a subsidiary of the National Association of Women Business Owners,
also known as NAWBO, and within a short period of time, was able
to become its own independent agency. CWBR is the premier source
of knowledge about women business owners and their enterprises worldwide.
CWBR began in 1989 and documented the economic and social contributions
of women business owners and has continually challenged the perceptions
of this growing economic force.
The board of directors
and the advisory council consist of many distinguished women and
men entrepreneurs and various leaders from across the country. The
research team is afforded the responsibility of conducting high-visibility
research projects on landmark topics. The center also connects corporate
leaders with women business owners, non-profit advocates and government
leaders at an annual Executive Roundtable; a foremost event for
the latest intelligence on women entrepreneurs. The center also
documents the growth of women-owned enterprises with the latest
statistics and current trends in the United States, in each state
and in each of the top metropolitan cities.
According to the statistical
data collected by the CWBR; the top states for women-owned businesses
are: Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey,
New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington.
CWBR also documents businesses owned by Women of Color in the United
States. Between 1997 and 2004, the number of African-American women-owned
businesses increased by 35.5%, and the number of Hispanic women-owned
businesses increased by 63.9%. The largest increase was businesses
owned by Asian, Pacific Islanders and Native Americans/Alaska Natives;
at 69.3%.
