Recently, the City of
Tampa asked for Lisa’s assistance in creating a template form for
their “Guide to Building an Affirmative Action Plan.” The template
created will be used by small businesses to make an application
for an Affirmative Action workplace.
The affirmative action
policy ensures that all employment practices are free from discrimination.
Some of the practices include, but are not limited to, hiring, upgrading,
demotion, transfers, recruitment, selection layoff, disciplinary
action, termination, rates of pay, training, etc.
This policy ensures that
the employer will not discriminate against any employee or applicant
for employment because of race, color, sex, national origin, sexual
orientation, age, handicap, marital status, familial status, or
religion, and works in conjunction with the Equal Employment Opportunity
regulations.
Mrs. Hickey used her
own application as a basis for the criteria to be used in the template
created. This template, along with the Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative
Action Policy Statement, can be found on the City of Tampa’s website,
